Bee Inspired – Creating our Own Beeswax Wood Polish
When making our unique and bespoke wooden trophies, we like to nourish the wood before sending out to clients. This ensures that the beautiful wood grain is brought out further and also increases longevity. Historically, we’ve used off-the-shelf brands but wanted to move towards a more natural and eco-friendly product, free from nasties.
Whilst trying to source a beeswax wood polish to suit our requirements we found that most contained Turpentine which we weren’t so keen on as it can be harmful. In the end, after reading some interesting blogs offering useful advice, we decided to make our own. That way we’d know that there was nothing but goodness in our beeswax wood polish.
We looked into various suggested recipes and then came up with our own special combination which is Pure Beeswax, Organic Coconut Oil and some Pure Essential Oil magic – and that’s it!
Locally Sourced Ingredients
Sourcing our ingredients, we chose 100% pure beeswax from local company Dartmouth Bees. The Coconut Oil is by UK based family-run company Lucy Bee. Their oil is raw, organic and Fairtrade and voted No. 1 Ethical Best Buy, voted by Ethical Consumer Magazine. We then added some carefully chosen 100% pure essential oils from brands such as Tisserand and Miaroma that we bought locally to enhance the already lovely aroma further.
We are really pleased with the results, and we hope that our customers appreciate this latest extra special touch and attention to detail.
The first job we chose to use the wax on was for some engraved trophies for returning client Skateboard GB’s Nottingjam competition. Our home-made wax really brought out the grain and colours in the wood and also left it smelling amazing!
